Welcome to Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club. We hope to help you improve your swimming whilst you are with us and also give you the opportunity to make new friends. You may also have the opportunity to swim competitively, either as part of team in a league gala or as an individual. Above all, we hope that you enjoy your time as a member of the swimming club. We have a reputation for being a friendly club and are pleased for you to be part of this.

This booklet/website should tell you and your parents all you need to know about us, but if you do think of anything else, just ask! There are usually committee members at the pool during each swimming session and they are happy to answer any questions you may have.

How it all Began
================

Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club (NASC) was formed in 1961, following the tragic drowning of a local child. The aim was to provide an essential facility for teaching and developing swimming in the town. To meet this aim the Memorial Swimming Baths, which were located on Bullamoor Road, were made available for the teaching of local children and adults every Wednesday.

Today
=====

The Swimming Club moved to its present venue in 1990 following the construction of Hambleton Leisure Centre, providing us with the use of a four lane, 25 metre pool for varying times three evenings each week. The Club still aims to teach and develop swimming skills but now also provides coaching to improve competitive swimming ability.

Organisation of the Swimming Club
=================================

Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), and also to the Northumberland and Durham Counties within the North Eastern Region.

A Committee formed from members who endeavour to keep us up to date with developments in the swimming fraternity runs the Club. All adult members are eligible to stand for election to the committee. We are constantly seeking people to join our committee or assist with the many varying tasks associated with running our club. Please help if you can, no job is too small.

Colin Walker.......................President
Graham Lane .......................Chair
